The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt delayed to release on May 19, 2015

You're going to have to wait another three months to get your hands on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as CD Projekt RED has announced it needs more time developing its most "ambitious game" yet.

CD Projekt RED has announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be delayed to May 19, 2015.

In a statement sent to Shacknews today, CD Projekt RED says it knew The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would be an “ambitious game” as the development studio aims to give players an “incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.” As a result of the sheer size and complexity of The Witcher 3, CD Projekt RED will need another 12 weeks of development time to make sure the title not only has a number of key features, but to also correct “many details” that need improvement. “When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.”

In light of all of all of the titles that have released with numerous bugs this fall, which includes Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Assassin's Creed Unity, and DriveClub, I for one am completely fine with waiting a bit longer for The Witcher 3.

At 80 hours I have finally completed most of the side quests. Killed all the dragons too. Just collection stuff in like two zones left. Story wise I just completed the warden mission.

I love CD Projekt Red. They actually wrote an apology for having to delay the release.

      Dear Gamers,

Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.

The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19th, 2015.

We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust.

Thank you for the all support you show us on a daily basis. We truly do appreciate it. It has fueled us in our passion since the start and will continue to do so.

And no beating around the bush. No fluffing it up with bureaucratic jargon. "It's bigger than we imagined and we broke shit we can't fix during a typical crunch".

Make it work and make it fun, and then release it. I'd much rather wait for a clean, polished release, than be a glorified beta tester waiting for a patch.

No worries here. I was afraid I wouldn't beat DAI in time to start this game. Juggling about two games currently.

I am fine with this. I currently have an AMD Phenom II X4 965, ATI HD 5970, and 4GB RAM. After the holidays, I will be updating my rig with a new proc, 32GB RAM and will try and snag the new r9 390 on release.

Yup, considering the buggy releases lately this is without question the right move.

Now, if only Disney and LucasFilm will take their time to iron out all the details of Ep VII.. oh wait...

Witcher 1 and 2 both thrived among competitors (Dragon Age, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc). It'll do fine - it's got a very very loyal audience.

Nah. They appeal to such different sensibilities. The Witcher has made its name on the strength of its ambiguous morality, meaningful choice/consequence, and character-driven (vs genre-typical save-the-world) stories, and on all counts Inquisition is a total non-competitor.
