Destiny’s 1.1 patch has introduced a change to the upgrade path for both exotic weapons and armor that requires Guardians to use a new material type, called the Exotic Shard, to initiate the final upgrade step for their gear. Exotic Shards can be obtained by either dismantling an exotic weapon that’s in your inventory, or by purchasing one from Xur for seven Strange Coins. Prior to this update, players needed to collect both Ascendant Energy and Shards in order to upgrade their excotic gear. Speaking of exotics, Bungie has also made of improvements to a number of exotic gear.
In addition to changes to exotic gear, Destiny’s 1.1 patch also includes the option to purchase natural materials to be used to help upgrade their gear. In order to purchase these materials, Guardians will be able to hand over Vanguard and Crucible marks to receive either Spinmetal from Earth, Helium Filaments from the Moon, Spirit Blooms from Venus, and Relic Irons from Mars.
Lastly, the 1.1 patch fixes for an issue with the Ahteon boss battle at the end of the Vault of Glass raid as well as removing an exploit that could cause the Templar in the Vault of Glass to be forced off of its platform.
