Blizzard Entertainment announces new game 'Overwatch'
Blizzard Entertainment has announced a new video game called "Overwatch."
Blizzard Entertainment announced a brand-new IP today during Blizzcon called "Overwatch" which is a team-based multiplayer shooter with vibrant characters to play as.
Overwatch stars a number of different characters that seem to offer different styles of play and abilities. There's Widowmaker, who appears to specialize in sniper abilities, and Winston, who is a giant gorilla equipped with cybernetics that can perform an ability called "Primal Punch." The trailer Blizzard showed off during the announcement featured a capture the objective game mode pitting two factions against one another.
The beta for the Overwatch will be available much sooner than we would have guessed as Blizzard has announced players will be able to take part in it sometime in 2015. In order to learn more about Overwatch, head on over to the title's official website, playoverwatch.com, although at the time of this writing, it appears the website isn't live yet.
If you feel like Overwatch looks awfully familiar, you're not alone as I definitely get a Team Fortress 2 vibe from it. Whether or not Overwatch will be F2P just like TF2 is completely unknown right now, but if it is, then I can be sure productivity around the Shacknews office will suffer a great deal.
Want to get better acquainted with the characters of Overwatch as well as their abilities? Blizzard has uploaded a ton of videos doing just that. Here's one of Reaper:
Instead of bombard you with videos, I'll just link the other ones in the comments for those who are interested in seeing how a specific character performs.

First of all Valve did not steal DotA. It mas made as a mod to Warcraft 3 that was not designed or influenced by Blizzard. Blizzard had several years to move on make the mod into one of their own personal IP's. However they choose not to. So Valve picked it up because they have had a history of picking up popular mods for their own IP's. Then Blizzard tried to sue Valve over DotA 2 after a few years into it's production. Which eventually was settled out of court and Valve got to keep everything for commercial purpose.
As for this game it looks like not so much as a TF2 clone, but more like a bunch of class based FPS multi-player games I have seen on the market (including Super Monday Night Combat). Blizzard always takes the best parts of certain games in a particular genre and tries to meld them into one game.-

Valve trademarked DotA. Blizzard contested the trademark.
Blizzard didn't try to sue Valve for making DotA 2. Blizzard contested Valve's trademark since the trademark would prevent them from using "DotA" for any of their properties, which was odd since the mod was originally developed for their game.

Yeah the consensus around the 'net seems to be the this was the PvP portion of Titan and Blizzard is trying to recoup the development time and costs.
Reading the character profiles reinforces this as there appears to be two main factions, Overwatch and Talon, and then some mercenary groups. It could have been a Horde vs. Alliance set up with mercenary players that could work for either side without having to permanently join that faction or other long term commitment.

So, this is Titan with all the MMO stuff stripped out then?
Reports after it was cancelled were that it was be an MMO chef or similar mundane profession by day, and then by night you'd become a hero fighting in TF2 style arena battles.
I like that they appear to have unique, fun abilities.
It kind of sucks that "objective based" almost universally means ctf or point capture nowadays. I'd love to see more people tackle the more complex type of objective play that we say in RTCW and the two Enemy Territory games. -
The cinematic trailer looked good... and I liked the security guard playing hearthstone.

Looking at the game play trailer I feel it looks like a bit mess, Its like watching a 10man Raid boss fight with shit loads of spells going of all at once and everything dying left and right.
I do like the look of the game but with that many classes and F2P i have a feeling balance will be a big issue to handle. -
