PS4 system software 2.00 includes themes, USB music player and more
Sony has detailed some of the improvements the PlayStation 4 will soon be receiving when its system software 2.00 is released.
PlayStation 4 owners haven’t been receiving as much firmware love as Xbox One owners have with their regular monthly updates, but Sony has just offered a preview of what they’re planning for their next big update.
PS4 system software 2.00 includes a number of highly-requested improvements, which include allowing users the ability to play their own music in the background of their game through the use of connect a USB stick loaded with your tune selection into the console. The player will support a variety of music files, which include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP.
Variety is the spice of life, and the PS4 is finally going to be getting a little variety as users will soon be able to change background colors of the home screen to one of several colors. This, of course, is in addition to theme support.
Other improvements include enhancements to the console’s live broadcasting, which makes it easier to watch the live broadcasts players are most interested in, improved organization of the content and library sections which make it easier to access your most used content while also keeping them organized, enhanced voice commands, which can be accessed by saying “PlayStation” to engage this feature, and an ability to add games to a user’s library without automatically downloading it.
Both the PS Vita and PS TV will also be receiving an update around the time the PS4 receives system software 2.00 which adds four-player Remote Play support to the PS TV and adding the Live from PlayStation app to both devices.
