Destiny 1.0.2 patch adding Engram changes

Bungie is making some changes to Engrams you encounter with next week's scheduled patch.

Bungie is preparing to deploy its next patch for Destiny, with some notable changes set to come to the game's Cryptarch and Engram system. More specifically, it should be easier to come across some Rare and Legendary items on the level of whatever Engram you encounter.

Legendary Engrams, for example, will always produce Legendary or better quality materials. Likewise, Rare Engrams will produce Rare or better items and offer an increased chance to receive Legenrary items. Engrams will also become more frequent when departing on daily and weekly Heroic quests.

Bungie also makes a bit of a candid admission with one of its last statements. "Legendary Engram items that exist in your inventory will be demoted to Rare quality when the patch goes live, so decode them while you can. But let’s be honest--even if you don’t, we all know they were blues already..."

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Lol, love that last bit. It's so true. Only legendary I ever got from a legendary engram was a stupid class item.

People are playing it to just go through the motion to feel like their purchase for the hype was meaningful and worth the money.

            Spoiler: It was not.

I'm glad that we have you, the Master of Fun, to tell us all what we do and do not enjoy. Shack, you should hire this guy so he can just inform us all ahead of time. It would save us tons of money.

Are you saying it was more interesting the way it was, or are you just getting your snark on? The initial loot system had this weird baked-in disappointment which served no purpose other than to fake you out when you got unlucky. Is that fun, or something? Why would that be worth keeping?

You know, I shouldn't complain, I've had two blues go purple in the last 36 hours.

I got my first (and only so far) purple engram from PvP the other day. Went to town and ID'd it, turned into 2 motes of light.

I was really excited for some shiny new purple boots, but I just got some stupid shit I can't use.

Ha,you should have known better. The one thing that's almost impossible to get from engrams are legendary leg armor. In fact, everyone that I've asked has said that they haven't gotten any.

As for motes of light,I guess they really are useless as they can only be used for items sold by The Speaker, which are purely cosmetic.

I really like this game, but I'm extremely sick of the RNG that I've constantly been on the wrong side of,along with many other players. This is just more proof that player trading should have been in this game.Hopefully the new engram patch will sooth this problem of getting shit items for purple engrams.

Now if only they could make a patch that gave Eva Levante more items, instead of the same four tired shaders.

For those who don't know, don't hoard your purple engrams. Bungie will downgrade them to blue's once the change takes place.
