Oculus VR pulled the curtain on a whole new prototype at this year's Oculus Connect conference, revealing Crescent Bay.

This year's Oculus Connect keynote kicked off with some exciting announcements. Among them was a whole new Oculus VR prototype called Crescent Bay, as well as some new partnerships.

The Crescent Bay prototype adds a new display technology with 360 degree head tracking, expanded tracking volume, improved weight, and improved integrated audio. With all this in mind, the Oculus team is showing off some new game demos designed to show off the new prototype's capabilities, which the company states is beyond what the current DK2 can pull off.

Oculus also announced a new partnership with Unity, which will allow Unity programmers utilizing either the Free or Pro versions of the SDK to take advantage of the Oculus Rift VR and its various abilities. Oculus will also be licensing RealSpace 3D audio technology for better sound quality.

There is no word on when the Crescent Bay prototype will be available, as Oculus acknowledges that it's in its very early stages.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Not a dev kit, just a prototype.

It was about 2 months after Crystal Cove was revealed that they announced DK2 and what six months later that they started shipping them.

So I would guess that another version could come out 6 months from now at the earliest.

Lie Crystal cove, this one won't be released. The next kit will be consumer version (though there might be a dev version with latency measurement our other dev specific features)
