Mario Kart 8 DLC will add Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing characters
Get ready for some new tracks and some new racers from some of Nintendo's other franchises.
Update: Nintendo has issued a press release confirming pricing details. Each DLC pack will be available for $7.99 each or as a full package for $11.99. They also clarified that the first DLC pack featuring The Legend of Zelda will be released in November, while the second pack featuring Animal Crossing would be released in May 2015.
Original story: Nintendo is adding a whole slew of new content to Mario Kart 8 and it's digging into a number of its sister franchises to do so. So get ready to see characters from The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing jump on some karts for the very first time, as they drive onto some all-new courses.
The first DLC pack, as detailed by Nintendo UK, will include eight new courses, four new vehicles (including the Blue Falcon from F-Zero), and three new characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, and Link.
The second pack will offer a separate helping of eight courses and four vehicles, along with the Villager and Isabelle from Animal Crossing and Dry Bowser.
Purchasing both packs will also give players eight separate Yoshi and Shy Guy colors. Each pack will run for roughly 7 pounds (or roughly $12) and will release in November.

Awesome, awesome, awesome.
Those packs are looking great. Can wait to race with the Blue Falcon kart and those four new cups are going to awesome. F-Zero tracks, Animal Crossing tracks, Zelda tracks....
I really hope Nintendo (and Sega) are making a proper F-Zero sequel to Wii U or at least a HD remake of F-Zero GX! That for 2015 would be f'n amazing! -

Who else is in favor of Mario Kart going full-bore Smash Bros.? Keep the Mario Kart branding, but give me Samus piloting a kart that looks like her ship, Link on a motorcycle that resembles Epona, etc.
Mario Kart 8's roster is its least impressive quality. Do we really need Bowser's entire brood eating up space on the character screen? Throw in more recognizable characters like Link, Samus, Captain Falcon, and a few Pokemon. Let me race through Hyrule Field, lava-filled caverns from Metroid, and some of F-Zero's famous tracks.
Mario Kart has become a staple in gaming not only because of great gameplay, but because its characters are recognizable. I don't know half the faces in Sonic All-Stars Racing (or whatever Sega's clone racer is called), but I know Nintendo characters. The series has done just fine with characters exclusive to Mario, but Kart 8's roster felt padded.
