Pokemon is getting an arcade fighting game in Japan, from the publisher of the Tekken series.

Pokken Tournament will be developed in collaboration with Bandai Namco. The announcement in Japan this morning showed Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada and Soulcalibur producer Masaaki Hoshino, reports Polygon, which likely means both teams will be contributing.

"Whether you are a causal player, a regular player or a hardcore player, anyone who likes Pokemon can have fun," said Harada, according to Kotaku. He also stated its "closer to an action game."

Pokken Tournament is due next year in Japan. No North American release plans have been announced.

Last year, Nintendo filed trademarks for Pokken Fighters and Pokken Tournament. Then this year, the Tournament trademark resurfaced in Europe. Near the first trademark news, Nintendo had shown a piece of teaser footage that showed Pokemon squaring off, fighting game style.
