Pokemon Trading Card Game coming to iPad
The popular Pokemon TCG is coming to iPad this year from The Pokemon Company, marking the first time Nintendo has put out a full game on iOS devices.
The Pokemon Company has announced it will be putting out its popular Pokemon Trading Card Game on iPad by the end of the year.
It confirmed the news to GamesBeat, after Twitter user Josh Wittenkeller leaked a screenshot. The Pokemon TCG has been one of the most popular outlets for the franchise, developing a healthy following since its debut in 1996. The studio didn't confirm whether it will rely on in-app purchases like Blizzard's Hearthstone or if it will be a premium app more like the yearly Magic releases.
The card game is a hybrid of Magic-like card rules and Pokemon gameplay. The competing trainers play their Pokemon to do battle one-on-one, with up to five others on their bench.
Nintendo has been hesitant to put its popular franchises on iOS devices, despite calls from investors to do so. It has experimented with Pokemon-related apps, but this will be its first game. Picking such a popular franchise seems to have done it good, as Nintendo shares jumped this morning in response to the news.
