Battlefield 1942 is free from Origin's On the House program

Last month, EA gave away free copies of Dead Space on Origin. Today, they've made Battlefield 1942 free. Like before, there's no catch. Simply add the game to your cart and checkout, and it'll be added to your digital library forever.
This is the second free game from EA's new On the House program. According to the original announcement, the publisher plans on releasing full games, expansions, and more at no cost. They can "appear and disappear at any time." And once you've purchased the game for free, it's yours permanently.
So, why is Origin doing this? "We're gamers, too. We appreciate you making Origin your gaming home ... and besides, who doesn't like free stuff?"

And like most Shackpiles, he deserves it. Origin is in every way inferior to Steam for my game use and management, but to say that it is a "stinking piece of shit" is complete hyperbole and a useless comment.

To their Origin servers no doubt, and you'll need to install the Origin version of the game to get the update.
Still, that's not so bad. The biggest complaint I've really heard about Origin is that it's "like Steam but lame." In terms of actual implementation Origin doesn't actively interfere with your attempt to play the game, unlike some other recently failed systems (GFWL, UPlay).

1943 is a hell of a game. I'm always a little surprised it's not on absolutely everything (new consoles, PC) because it's such a nice package.

BF1942 is useless if you have Win8 on your PC. It won't run, or at least didn't when I tried to install it in October last year which was when they first started to offer it for free.

after they deleted deadspace 3 off of my account for some reason i'm done with origin, just glad i only paid 10 bucks on the humble bundle for it.

Seriously? I still haven't redeemed my DS3 serial key from that same sale. I was waiting until I was actually going to play the game. Kind of makes me glad I haven't yet.

4 friends have DS3 from the same HB sale, having no issues. I think kiddygrinder is the exception, not the norm.
