Director Ridley Scott of Alien and Blade Runner fame is the executive producer of a Halo project coming this year, according to Microsoft. It will be done through Scott's production company, Scott Free TV, with president David Zucker also producing. Neither will be handling the directorial duties personally, however, as that's going to Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, who has directed episodes of various TV shows like Prison Break and Falling Skies.

The Wrap (via Eurogamer) reports that this series will follow a new Spartan protagonist, separate from Master Chief.

Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring will be writing the digital feature. This is also said to be a separate project than the Spielberg produced series being made for Xbox One. Its legacy won't be entirely removed from Spielberg, though, as Mimica-Gezzan was first assistant director on several films including Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

Microsoft is expected to share more details at E3. Presumably, at that time we'll get more details on its larger entertainment plans as well.
