Updated with information on EA's "On the House" promo.

If for some reason, you've yet to play the original Dead Space, you'll be able to pick it up for free on Origin today. Simply add the game to your cart and checkout, and it'll be added to your digital library.

Dead Space is actually the first game to kickstart a new promo by EA. Called On the House, the publisher plans on releasing full games, expansions, and more at no cost. They can "appear and disappear at any time." And once you've purchased the game for free, it's yours permanently.

So, why is Origin doing this? "We're gamers, too. We appreciate you making Origin your gaming home ... and besides, who doesn't like free stuff?"

Dead Space 3 is also quite good IF you play it co-op because it's hilarious and also spooky

It had some fuckin annoying sections though. Like all the mountain climbing bits. And the very end of the game.

          Honestly, I don't think I'd even recommend DS3 coop.

I would - I had a huge amount of fun in Dead Space 3's co-op mode. I've played through it a couple of times with friends and felt it was well worth the purchase despite a few annoying bits, if only because it's fairly rare that we actually get a decent scripted co-op action/adventure game these days.

Plus, it was really fun trying out the crazy part combinations for my weapons and showing them off to my friends.

Having to fuck around with port forwarding to get the coop to work is extremely annoying.

Dead Space is the action-survival-horror game Capcom wished RE5 could have been. If you haven't played it, PLAY IT.

Only today? I've never played it.

It's not like a Steam free weekend, they're giving away a code that will permanently tie a copy of DS to your Origin account.

      I'm torn here.
On one hand, I hate EA with the intensity of a dying sun as it novas.
On the other, I love free stuff.
      Damn you EA!

It's a great game that was made against all odds by passionate people. It deserves all the love it can get!

I loved DS2, but never played either of the other games. I guess I'll grab this.

Hmm, now I have TWO copies in my Origin account! I didn't realize I already owned Dead Space (must've been in a previous Humble Bundle, I guess?), and both show up. I can't delete the extra, but at least the Origin client allows me to hide it (along with a bunch of Sims crap that I somehow acquired).
