Phoenix Wright creator wanted to conclude his story after three games
Phoenix Wright has made his return to the courtroom, but series creator Shu Takumi reveals that his story was originally meant to be told within the original trilogy and go no further.
Phoenix Wright recently made his triumphant return to the courtroom in last year's Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies and will cross paths with Professor Layton later this year. So it's intriguing to hear that Ace Attorney series creator Shu Takumi never intended for Phoenix Wright's story to last beyond the original trilogy.
"I felt that Phoenix's story had been told, and that the series should not continue," Takumi said in an interview with ONM UK. "Knowing when to end a story is very important and I wanted to avoid dragging it out and having it become a shadow of its former self."
When it came time for another Ace Attorney game, Takumi settled on a starring role for Apollo Justice, before Capcom was ultimately able to convince him to return Phoenix Wright to the bench. Fortunately for series fans, Takumi has rediscovered his love for the character and will bring back Phoenix Wright for an all-new entry to the franchise in the future.
