Blizzard has opened the door for World of Warcraft players that wish to pre-order the upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion. Anyone that pre-purchases the game in full, either digitally or at retail, will receive an immediate level 90 upgrade for one character.

The standard and Digital Deluxe editions of Warlords of Draenor are available for purchase from the Battle.net shop for $49.99 and $69.99 respectively. The Digital Deluxe edition will include a Dread Raven mount and Dread Hatchling pet, Grommash Hellscream and Blackhand Battle.net portraits for use in StarCraft II, and a battle-torn Warsong Pennant for Diablo III. Both versions will include the level 90 insta-boost, which grants access to some of the expansion's higher-level raids and quests.

Those wishing to level up additional characters to 90 can do so for a $60 price tag, which Blizzard hopes will maintain the value of leveling.

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor is coming this fall and requires the base game (which includes Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm) and the Mists of Pandaria expansion.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I was pretty surprised by this as well. Blizzard expansions have always been $40, and if anything I would expect to see them lower the cost if they want to grow their numbers back to what they used to be.

Wait what? Cash grab or does this expansion provide noticeably more content?
