Oculus is hitting a supply snag, and may have to suspend sales of its development kit until it gets the production pipeline flowing again. Some components are no longer being manufactured, and the company is searching for alternative sources while it runs through the existing supply.

Currently, Oculus only sells early development kits. However, it plans on releasing a consumer release soon. The latest prototypes offer a glimpse at features which may make it into the initial retail release.

An Oculus community manager posted on Reddit (via Joystiq) that the existing supply of the components is "quickly running out." Oculus is currently only selling and shipping to the US, Canada, European Union, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Switzerland, and Norway--but it says that it will be suspending sales by region if stock runs dry.

"We never expected to sell so many development kits and VR only made this much progress with the community's support and enthusiasm," the post read. "Even though we never wanted to sell out, it's a good problem to have--thank you!"
