Plants vs Zombies 2 has received an update marking the return of series supervillain Zomboss. The brainy brain-eater will be distributed in three parts, each inserting a boss battle into one of the three playable worlds: Egypt, Pirate, and Wild West.

The Zomboss update also comes with a new Snowball power-up, which freezes all enemies in place while your battalion of plants wreaks havoc on them. Zomboss has been absent from PvZ2, and seemed to be waiting for the Far Future update that PopCap had previously teased. Today's announcement didn't drop any more clues about when the Far Future expansion might arrive, but reintroducing Zomboss to existing levels might be a first step.

Check out the reviews on the Google Play store since the new update. A majority of people are unhappy with the new PvZ2 update. The biggest complaints are the new lawnmower game mechanic: lawn mowers no longer replenish after the completion of a level. They now require slow to farm gold or a cash purchase to recover them. Additionally, for people who have cleared the game already the second 2 new Zomboss levels do not work.

EA, once more f***ing up a good series. Well, just the one game before Popcap was acquired, really.

what's the difference, a lot of levels you lose if a lawnmower activates, and the later levels are pretty darn difficult, can't seem to win without using the "power-ups", which cost money

I'd completed before the update and could only fight the first Zomboss too. The others look just, deserted as if Zomboss forgot to show.

You would be better off just playing the first one. Better game, nicely balanced, no microtransactions, and Zen Garden included. PvsZ2 has nothing on the first game.

Yeah. You don't want it. At first I loved it. But when it became obvious that they wanted me to spend more money (fuck you, I bought all the extra plants/slots), it got old immediately.

I've completed it and haven't spent a penny. I'm no fan of this FTP nonsense, but if it means I can play a game for free that'd I'd otherwise have bought, well, I'm happy with that. Everything is so insanely expensive too, I'm surprised it works as a model, clearly enough people willing to pay out there.

Meh. PvZ 2 hasn't gripped me nearly as much as the original did. While there was more going on from a strategy perspective, to me there was not enough variety in terms of mini-games and I got bored pretty quickly.

My wife is obsessed with this game. I got her a 3DS for Christmas and she still just plays PVZ2 on her phone! She complains about my Spelunky obsession, but I'm pretty sure she plays more PVZ2 per week than all my gaming combined.
