Killer Instinct debuts Spinal with new rage quit rules

Spinal makes his debut in Killer Instinct today and he brings along with him some new rules aimed at deterring rage quitters.

Double Helix is upping Killer Instinct's roster by one more today, as the bone-chilling Spinal enters the arena. With the ability to absorb projectiles and teleport back and forth, Spinal's an intimidating foe and you might be tempted to just quit while you're ahead. That's not advised, as Spinal will be accompanied by some new rules meant to deter rage quitters.

Beginning with today's update, Ranked Matches have a new 'Jail' feature. If a player's disconnect percentage reaches 15% (out of a 10-match minimum), that player will go to 'Jail' for a 24-hour period. Jailbirds will only be matched up against other Jail members and will also get their profile automatically changed to a custom 'Jail' icon until their sentence is served. Repeat offenders will see their 'Jail' sentences increase by 24 hours for every offense, all the way up to five days.

The Double Helix forum has the full list of updates, balance changes, and fixes for today's update. Check out Spinal's undead rampage in the trailer below and watch out for one more cameo at the end.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Cool, I've been wondering when he hit the game. The jail thing sounds interesting too.

The jail for rage quitters is such a great thing in multiplayer games like this.

Any shackers play this? I'm pretty decent but I don't know if my ego can handle ranked. Hmm.

I can't handle ranked. I'm not about to pretend to be a KI expert, but I do have fun with it.

yeah, it all depends on if you're able to have fun while losing constantly. Even though I lost most of the time in SF4, I would get a little better each time I played, and that was enough to keep it fun.

People would leave games early to save their rank and W/L records. Not so much rage quitting as it was self preservation, I suppose.
