Watch Dogs for Wii U 'in between' current and next gen
According to Ubisoft, the Wii U version of Watch Dogs will be better than the current-gen counterparts, although won't be able to match the fidelity of the PS4 or Xbox One version, of course.
Wii U is quite the odd system. Is it the last of the current-gen consoles? Is it the first of the next-gen consoles? Spec-wise, it can oftentimes seem as though Wii U isn't any beefier than a PS3 or Xbox 360.
According to Ubisoft, the Wii U version of Watch Dogs will be better than the current-gen counterparts, although won't be able to match the fidelity of the PS4 or Xbox One version, of course. "I would say the Wii U version is pretty much in between what the current gen is and what the next gen is from a version standpoint," Ubisoft Montreal creative director Jonathan Morin said.
"I would tend to say it's maybe a bit closer to current gen than next gen for certain things but it's a beautiful game on Wii U and it's cool to play it just on the GamePad," Morin told CVG.
While the game will look better on Wii U, it doesn't appear Ubisoft is adding any unique GamePad functionality into the game. "There are no new features or anything like that," Morin admitted. "It's the same game but we're optimizing the controls for the beast that is the Wii U GamePad." In addition, Morin admitted that the Wii U version is the only one that's being outsourced. While Montreal is working on the Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions simultaneously, Ubisoft Bucharest is working on the Nintendo version.
