Rockstar looking to fix GTA 5 disappearing car glitch

There's currently a glitch in Grand Theft Auto V that's causing vehicles in their garages to disappear and Rockstar is quickly searching for a fix.

Rockstar is actively working to fix a glitch in Grand Theft Auto V that's resulting in some vehicles disappearing from garages or upgrades being lost. The issue occurs on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game and mostly involves upgrades, mission states, and another character's personal vehicle.

"We have received some reports about problems with cars and garages, particularly after upgrading and then completing a mission, and are looking into this now," Rockstar stated on their support site (via CVG). "Unfortunately, we do not currently have a workaround to recover a car if it is missing."

This is most likely to occur if one character drives a different character's personal vehicle. Players may also encounter an issue involving vehicles saved in a safehouse garage not appearing in a different safehouse. Rockstar adds, "In the meantime, please try to avoid parking a car in a garage, driving one already in a garage, or getting in a default vehicle, when playing as a character other than the one with your upgrades."

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

the phrasing used is exactly how one normally talks about finding a fix for a bug (since yes, a fix does already exist, you have to discover what it is)

...and having come from QA circles, I can add that this is exactly the terminology that was used.

500MB for a supplementary app is nuts. Curious to see how big a lot of those "second screen" experience apps get.

Certain games (like Deus Ex: The Fall and XCOM) are well over a couple of GB, but that's because they're full-sized games. I'm a little concerned that by that metric, somewhere around 500MB could be the standard.

In short, I need to upgrade my iPad soon. **grumble**

You really aren't missing anything. The ifruit app sucks and only works like 1/3rd of the time anyway. The manual while nice, the map doesn't have that much information and can't be zoomed in on enough to be useful to me.

I haven't seen this bug yet but I have seen another glitch involving the garage. Sometimes the game will glitch out and give you a duplicate of what ever car is in the safe house garage. On launch day I thought it was weird that I put one car in and suddenly there are two in there and I can't get them out with out destroying one.

Also, these bugs really freaking suck, and not just because they deprive the player of good cars. Because of the cost of modding cars in the game, it can also put a character significantly behind in terms of available cash with no good way to catch back up.

Eh not really unless the player wastes all their money. You should have plenty of cash for mods and guns by halfway through the game. You might not have enough to outright buy cars, property or tanks but combined I have about 1.5 million between people right now and I haven't done anything but story missions and investing in the market based on other missions.

That's what I mean. I'm about half-way through (48% completion or something) and I have enough for supplies and whatnot, but because I blew a bunch of money on trying to get the cars to work I can't really afford some of the cheaper and more useful properties.

From what I hear the properties are overpriced for the ROI so it's not that big of a deal. There are other perks to buying certain properties such as and I am not sure if this is truly a spoiler or not but better safe than sorry if you buy a hanger at the airport then you do not get stars when entering the runway and crashing the gate.

So if i take a car out of my garage and ditch it or lose it somewhere, will it reappear in my garage or is that only for cars that i've bought?

      • reply
        September 24, 2013 4:55 AM

My understanding is that it should, theoretically, turn up at the impound after an indeterminate amount of time. My experience is that the only cars that turn up at the impound are cars I don't care about. Upgraded Vapid Bullet? Vanishes, never to be seen again. Random stolen sedan? Turns up in impound.

Ok got ya, so i guess the cars that you actually buy should turn up at the impound if you abandon them somewhere or they get destroyed but this bug is preventing that, hopefully it will get fixed.
