GTA 5 companion app brings custom cars and virtual pet
After stocking up on groceries, preparing a nest of blankets, and acting increasingly poorly for days to lay groundwork for a sick day tomorrow, you may think you're ready for Grand Theft Auto V's launch tomorrow, but wait! One more thing: you need the companion app. Dropped unexpectedly onto iOS today, 'iFruit' lets you customise cars to drive in GTA V, and care for Franklin's pet dog Chop to make him more useful in-game.

See, you get an iFruit phone in GTA5, and the free download from the iTunes App Store mimics this with 'apps.' It connects to the Rockstar Social Club and parody social network Life Invader, but the shiny exciting bits are Los Santos Customs and Chop the Dog.
On the car customization front, you can tweak brakes, engine, exhaust, lights, horns, tires, armor, and all that, as well as make custom license plates. Your customized car will then appear at a garage in Grand Theft Auto 5, waiting for you to drive it home.
As for Chop the Dog, that's a virtual pet, with minigames to care for the pooch. If you're good to Chop, in actual GTA5 he may act more obedient, perform tricks, and find hidden items.
Right now iFruit's only on iOS, but given the lack of fanfare it seems to have slipped out before Rockstar had planned. I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit Android in time for tomorrow's launch.
