Cliff Bleszinski, best known for his work on the Gears of War series, left Epic Games last year to work on something new. And whatever he's working on, it appears he's ready to start showing it off.

"Here's a sneak peek at something I'm working on that has been cropped," he tweeted.

Whatever Bleszinski's new project is, it's likely to be a departure from his previous work. When he announced his departure from Epic, he noted that he's "grown up" now, adding he didn't want "the whole chainsaw gun to be my legacy."

"Moving forward I would hope to work on something new and fresh and redefine my legacy. Stephen Spielberg didn't want to be known for just E.T. so he made a lot of different kinds of things," he told G4.

Andrew Yoon was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Is that Fortnite game or whatever still in development? I haven't been following.

Epic is working on Fortnite yes. But Cliff doesn't work there anymore.

Not the man, that's for sure. He was on a giantbomb discussion during E3 and sounds like he's working for himself shopping it around to publishers.

Also, from the watermark, it looks like his new company is whosay and it's all copyrighted to him personally.

Whosay is a website that lets those with high influence/celebs share pictures. It's not his company and has nothing to do with gaming.

It is, as long as it wasn't stealth-canned. The original head of that was Lee Perry, but he left Epic in 2012, leaving Tanya Jessen to lead it. I think it might have gotten some press time at GDC, but nothing since then. It's a game I'm not going to buy since it combines so many elements I don't like (tower defense, microtransaction potential), but it's become almost irrelevant in the gaming news scene, since it's a 2011-era fad that was left in the oven too long.

I don't know if Epic even has a studio anymore. If they're keeping quiet because they habe a big project in the skunk works, they should have some studio heads interview with gaming sites to prove their existence. Otherwise, I guess they're making Unreal Engine 4, which almost no megapublisher is going to license since they wanted to stop paying the Unreal tax and run on tech that they acquired.

You're probably right: after all those successful video games, they've probably laid off everyone who made them and decided to call it a day.

Wouldn't it be safe to assume Epic made truckloads of money from Unreal engine and could just continue doing Unreal engines?

Most people do get into video games for the money, that is true.

In a vacuum of information, it is only safe to assume the worst. Unreal as I knew it in 99 is dead three times over, first being replaced by geneboosted dudebros, then by getting GameSpy'd, then by fading into nothingness, behind Gears and Infinity Blade.

At first I thought it was part of the image, then thought it was just really bad compression (or, compression gone bad I guess). But, looking at it closer I think you're right. It's alpha channel clipping and a render error. You wouldn't normally post marketing images with flaws like that.

Creative direction and design are the building blocks for the games industry. Try not to squash this guys accomplishments. He may not be the most articulate guy, but his leadership in design and made some really fun games that defined the industry for the last console generation; whether we like it or not.

Level Designer. I remember when he fucked up the UT:RA deal insisting on changes to the design so CRT ended up leaving. He wasn't too happy with the Quake community calling his maps "shitty". haha
