Ouya is starting up a $1 million pool of funds to go towards promising Kickstarter projects for its console. The "Free the Games Fund" will award between $50,000 and $250,000 towards potential Ouya game that launch their Kickstarter in the coming year. Eligible games will need to reach their funding goal of at least $50,000, and commit to a six month Ouya exclusivity window.

The official site (via Polygon) explains that Ouya will match the total funds raised in crowdfunding, up to $250,000. The funding is divided into three periods: 25% when the campaign ends, 50% when the game launches, and the remaining 25% once the six-month exclusivity ends. Obviously, once the $1 million mark is tapped, the funds run out. Whichever raises the most by the end date in 2014 will also get an additional $100,000 on top of those funds. Some frequently asked questions and full submission guidelines are available on the site.

I don't really think a million dollars is going to get them much. That isn't really a whole lot of money in that industry.

Amazon does the same thing with exclusives and everyone just waits for them to arrive in the Play store. The wait is usually way shorter tho, not 6 months long.

      I agree this is horrible.

They are simply waiting for the consumer to validate that a game is decent by crowdfunding, and then lock it down for 6 months. What a terrible deal for developers.

      This is a lose-lose.
