Battlefield 4 developer DICE has confirmed that it is building Kinect functionality into the Xbox One version of the game, but the studio is making sure that whatever features are built in add "value" for the player.

One thing that is definitely not being added is motion control. "When you look at the kind of games that we build--or Battlefield at least--it is a first-person shooter that is very much about skill. Input is really important," DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson told Game Informer (via Videogamer). "You need to have very precise control over what's going on, and trying to do something like that with motion control input does not make sense--not if you want to keep the same kind of formula of the game as we [have] now. You'd need to build a different kind of shooter.

"But there are other places where it will make sense, and we are going to use it for other things in the game, but we haven't announced exactly what," he said. No mention was made if any Kinect functionality would be added to the Xbox 360 version.

The news really isn't that surprising as the new Kinect is mandatory on Xbox One. Troedsson's comments reiterate what DICE executive producer Patrick Bach said in April: "We are extremely open to innovation, but if it's a gimmick, there's no point unless it adds value to the player."
