In spite of launching a new console later this year, Sony has a number of exclusives launching on PS3 this holiday. Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is yet another game planned for the current-gen.

Into the Nexus will launch for $30 on Blu-ray and PlayStation Network. While it may not be a "full" console game, it will still be larger than the previous downloadable games in the franchise: Quest for Booty and Full Frontal Assault. And unlike recent games in the series, Into the Nexus promises to return to what made the franchise so popular in the first place: a single-player adventure.

"We've challenged ourselves to bring new types of play to the Ratchet series," Insomniac's James Stevenson explained on the PlayStation.Blog. "At the same time, we love single-player Ratchet adventures. We've continued to generate new ideas for weapons, gadgets, and planets. It feels like the time is right to revisit Ratchet’s personal story arc."

Into the Nexus will serve as "an epilogue" to the Future games and will be directed by Brian Allgeier, the creative director of Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time.

Of course, being a PS3 game, Into the Nexus won't work on PS4--at least not at launch. Explaining the decision to go exclusive on PS3, Stevenson said "we have a ton of Ratchet fans on PS3 who loved the Future saga, it seemed right to bring the Epilogue to them on that platform!"
