Grand Theft Auto 5 is two discs on 360, requires install on both consoles

Rockstar has outlined the Grand Theft Auto 5 install requirements for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The 360 version will come with two discs, one of which is reserved just for the install.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is going to take place across the sprawling metropolis of Los Santos, and promises to be more densely packed than prior GTAs to boot. That size eats up a lot of disc and memory space, necessitating multiple discs on the Xbox 360 and mandatory installs across both consoles.

In a fan Q&A, Rockstar outlined the install requirements. The Xbox 360 version will ship on two discs, and the first will be reserved just for a mandatory install. Once installed, you'll play both the game and its still-mysterious "GTA Online" counterpart using only the second disc. The PlayStation 3 version will install the content automatically upon its first start-up.

Both versions require at least 8GB of free space, but if you're using an Xbox 360 without a hard drive, you can use a USB flash drive instead. It will need to be at least USB 2.0, and Rockstar recommends you just pick up a brand new flash drive for the best performance.

Blargh, just announce the PC version already. I know I'm not going to be able to wait unless it is within a week :(

I would go PC, but there ports haven't been good for PC. Basically you have to wait 6months+ for them to patch it up.

Is this coming out on Xbone and PS4? Cause fuck this game if it's not - GTA4 was unplayable with those shitty framerates on the 360.

I don't believe they've suggested it would be coming out on either of the next gen consoles. I suppose it's possible.

It was hardly unplayable. It was just much, much better on PC once it was patched and people started using quad-core processors.

I'm anxious about a handful of games like this one (and particularly Batman: Arkham Origins) not yet being announced for Xbox One/PS4.

I have this hopefully nonsensical fear that a few games will be released on 360/PS3 and then later upgraded XBone/PS4 versions will be announced which will include features/maps/missions not in the original versions.

Hopefully they're just waiting to announce the next-gen versions and/or if they're trying to pull anything, their next-gen plans at least get leaked so I know ahead of time.

I'm sure it will arrive on those systems eventually, but not until they have a big install base.

I hope so. Even if it's merely a 1080p/60Hz port of the 360/PS3 version, I'd be happy.

ON CURRENT GEN, but yea Vice City was the last great GTA to be honest, the rest had too much shit. San Andreas was fun with gang wars but the game was just too big. GTA V I barely scratched the surface of before being bored to tears.

If I'm thrown into another sandbox game I want it to look fucking awesome and cutting edge. This gen is over!

San Andreas was awesome. The scope, the music, the characters were all really good. I'm glad they're going back to the West Coast, and with such an enormous suburban/rural landscape. I can't wait.

Vice City had the best soundtrack and setting, but I'd say San Andreas was overall the high water mark for the series.

I'm guessing they'll take the same tack as with the PC. Announcing it for other platforms could tempt people not to buy it on the available platforms so they won't confirm it, but it probably will happen.

So complain about no PC build complain about not being on next gen just be happy the game is coming out. The game is coming out before the next systems even come out its the same with Beyond : Two Souls and a few other games. Honestly I'm waiting a few months until I buy my PS4 so I will take your copys of the games cause you guys don't want to play them on current gen systems.

GTA IV ran like crap on consoles and was never optimized very well for the PC, yet you want to play the next version on the same 8-year-old console hardware? I'll wait for a patched PC version as well.

The frame rate wasn't great on the consoles but I really noticed the choppiness in the more sandbox multiplayer modes.
