SimCity launches 'Airship' DLC
EA and Maxis have launched the "Airships Pack" for SimCity, adding tourist and commuter blimps, balloon parks, and a special event blimp. It's available for $8.99.
SimCity is taking a unique (and not altogether practical) approach to reducing city traffic: balloons! The new "Airships" pack is available for $8.99, and includes two Airships, two balloon parks with ten unique balloons, and an Event Blimp for your stadium.
The two airships described on the official blog sound the most useful. A Commuter Airship transports workers, while a Tourist Airship brings in tourists. The tourist ship has a higher capacity than a bus, and the commuter ship sets a network between cities. Setting the ships in your city will eventually make the event blimp show up, and you can set up a commuting network with other airship-owning mayors. The balloon parks will make your city happier as well.

Are people actually buying this shit? I know the game sold well but that's because of the name and initial hype. There can't be that many people still playing the game.

Because patch 5.0 fixed bugs that weren't fixed for garages that had the problem, only new ones.

I'd love to play it again. I had fun for the first couple of hours but there's no way I could go back to it until they expanded the city size and fixed other issues the game had. It's just really frustrating because parts of the game are really cool.

So at this point, are Maxis just dumping onto the market their pipeline of DLC plans that were formulated months and months before the March 2013 release date? It's like looking at the side of a canyon, at the various layers of sedimentary rock; you can almost see the rabid monetization decisions between the (free) Nissan Leaf "ad"-on, the "ball of twine" Crest / Oral-B "ad"-on, and now the Airship DLC. At least the Amusement Park DLC was within spirit of the SimCity culture, but it was $10.
