Sony making yet another PS3 model
Sony has filed for certification for new PlayStation 3 models, similar to the Super Slim model numbers, implying internal revisions are on the way.
Although PS4 is set to launch this holiday, Sony isn't letting PS3 go to rest. In fact, it appears that the company has plans to update the PS3 with yet another SKU. A set of certifications filed in South Korea and Japan indicates the company has something up its sleeve. However, don't expect a total redesign a la the Slim and Super Slim. Instead, it's likely the new-model PS3s will rework some of the current system's internals.
Kotaku reports that Sony has registered PS3 model CECH-4205 in Korea. The current PS3 Super Slim is the CECH-4000 series.
The first number following the CECH prefix typically indicates the generation of the hardware. Sony's PS3 Slim launched as CECH-2000, and 2100 and 2500 SKUs followed with larger hard drives and reworked internals. It's likely that the jump from the current CECH-4000 to 4200 series will result in a similar, nearly-invisible leap for consumers.

I'd like to see them re-released over xbla, psn and steam again. They were pretty fun games.
Though i'm not sure they can now since they don't own the rights to lotr games anymore.

I got it, I dont like the grooves, dust just sticks in them, worse than the glossy ones, I liked the slim I had better. Stupid me selling it.

Yea, there's no way I'm going to clean it, also, I hate pulling the disc out of it, with my fat fingers I feel like I might break something in there. I think it's made for tiny asian hands.

Backwards compatiblity was screwed up anyway on the launch PS3. Lots of lag even if you played on a CRT. I think it upscaled 240p games as well which is just a travesty.

I have the Super Slim, and I think it's great. It fits perfectly on top of my fat PS2, I will never have to worry about a loading motor dying, and the grooves look cool matched up with my PS2. Feather duster cleans the grooves just fine.

My 80 GB Fatty is loud as hell too., It'll run the fun for 10 minutes to take 1 minute breaks.

It's not the dust or airflow it's the thermal paste that completely drys up over time preventing proper heat transfer between the chip and heatsink and it needs to be replaced. Heatsink could be bathed in liquid nitrogen and it wouldn't make a difference.
