EA's MOBA 'Dawngate' site opens
A site has gone up for "Dawngate," a MOBA developed by new studio Waystone Games and published by EA.
Electronic Arts is getting into the MOBA business, as evidenced by the launch of a new website for "Dawngate" from new studio Waystone Games. Details are scarce, though, because it seems like EA may have flipped a switch a little earlier than intended.
The Dawngate site (via GameSpot) has gone live, and even allows beta signups. But its forums and various social network links are inactive.
"Dawngate is a new MOBA, built from the ground up to look and feel familiar while offering a whole new way to experience MOBA gameplay," reads the site. "Dawngate empowers you to forge the champions you love for the roles you want in a competitive arena, shaped by ever-evolving, community-driven content and story."
Late last year, we heard Visceral was hiring for a MOBA, and at the same time was hiring a map designer with experience in the action/shooter genre. If Waystone spun off of Visceral to focus on this new MOBA project, some kind of shooter DNA could provide the "new way" that the teaser site promises. But it's too early to tell, and so far EA has not made an official announcement. We'll update as more information becomes available.

I find the learning curve to be too steep to try out a new MOBA every couple months. Not the basic mechanics but the re-learning of what abilities every single character has any time you switch games. That's like the bulk of the game. I'll play a new shooter every couple months because that doesn't change: shoot the bad guys.
