SimCity's 'first significant update' coming Monday

EA is preparing a major update for SimCity, which will come with a few small feature additions and a huge list of fixes and updates to make the game run smoother.

SimCity is getting its version 2.0 patch on Monday, a major update that will make quite a few changes and fixes. EA calls it the game's "first significant update," and says it will pull the game down for approximately two hours at 1 PM PST to issue the changes.

A post on the EA Forums detailed the new features. The HUD will color-correct when set to colorblind mode, and data maps will show a filtered color when enabled, except when in colorblind mode. You can also drive your helicopter, limo, or sports car to work, because Mayors get to do that sort of thing.

The list of fixes and updates is much longer than the list of new features. The region filter will sort ones with available spots at the top, and invitations to regions should transfer more quickly. Various fixes are coming to casinos, education systems, transit, air pollution, recycling, and more as well.

Unless it fixes the game by giving it offline play and larger build-space, don't waste my time. My copy of the game will continue to sit in digital decay. Get a damn vision that actually fits with Sim City.

You knew about the city size and the no-offline-play before you bought it - why did you bother?

The first reviews alleviated the fear caused by small city size. The first 20-30 hours you play in wonderment, and then begin to realise why the small city size does matter. I would like a larger city, or at least a circular one.

Whose vision of Sim City? Yours or the owner of the IP?

you're right "the owner of the IP has the right to do whatever they please with their property" but i think it's hard to argue that EA hasn't ruined the original vision of the Sim City IP.

The vision set forth by the original games. SC5 is a monstrosity of bad game design.

Apparently getting it to work wasn't significant.

I know this is typically frowned on these days, but seems appropriate:

"Is this the patch that makes it good?"

The problem is that I dont think you will find an acceptable answer, but I'm going to go with "Hell NO".

That fix list looks like 'how the game was supposed to work'.

Yeah, regions with open slots appearing first in search results? Wow, wtf. How is that not the first thing you do with the search ui? I think I would feel embarrassed if I had to publish a change log with something that's so obviously a bug being touted as a feature. The entire change list consists of shit that should have been there from day one.

I knew it would be like this and I still bought it. I will stfu about this now, because I'm the idiot.

that's ok, we'll allow EA to take this opportunity to impress you by realizing "hmm, people gave us the money anyways, that was big of them... let's return the favor and really put in some effort on our end"

2.0? More like v0.9. Game sounds like it's almost ready for a v1.0 now (but still isn't really...)
