Not surprisingly, Rovio is doing very well for itself. Even with the solid foundation of its successful Angry Birds franchise well-secured, it still managed to grow its total revenues for 2012 by 101% over the previous year. The company reported its 2012 fiscal results, bringing in 152.2 million euros (approximately $196 million), up from 75.6 million euros ($97 million).

The results attribute the strong sales to its games and consumer goods. It launched four games during the period (Angry Birds Space, Amazing Alex, Bad Piggies, and Angry Birds Star Wars), but the biggest growth was in its consumer products division. That tripled from 2011, and accounted for 45% of its total profits. All those Angry Birds plushies, costumes, and board games have really paid off. As a result, the company more than doubled in size during the year, from 224 to 518.

For the coming year, Rovio plans to lean on its Angry Birds Toons series, create more new IPs, and "explore opportunities with external parties," according to CEO Mikael Hed.

Seriously. I've gotten a hell of a lot of content for the $4 I've spent over the years on Angry Birds games. Good way to pass the time on flights.

Heck, I've probably spent more on Angry Birds band-aids and underwear for my kids than I have on the actual games. That IP is a god damned gold mine.
