Not much has been said about the new Warcraft movie since Sam Raimi said he was no longer directing the film. But now, Legendary Pictures has announced his replacement, grabbing the the director of sci-fi films Moon and Source Code.

The Hollywood Reporter said Duncan Jones is taking the helm of the live-action adaptation of the Blizzard franchise. It is a big jump in terms of scale for Jones, with Moon and Source Code having had $1 million and $35 million budgets, respectively. Warcraft is expected to exceed $100 million.

He later tweeted that he thinks he is up to the task: "So the gauntlet was thrown down ages ago: Can you make a proper MOVIE of a video game. Ive always said its possible. Got to DO it now! ;)"

Details on the movie have been sketchy since it was first discussed back in 2007. The script is already complete, but is a tightly guarded secret. Production is expected to start this fall, with a planned release of 2015. Chris Metzen, Blizzard's vice president of story and franchise development, is a co-producer on the film.

I wish Duncan Jones was doing that movie about the mute girl in future Berlin - the one in the same universe as Moon.

At this point I really have to wonder whether this movie is actually worth making. Warcraft is so far outside of the zeitgeist these days.

The only sense it would make right now to push this movie through is if Blizzard was staging a comeback with something like Warcraft 4...

      ...oh my god.

Blizzard will probably have their RTS crew start work on War4 after the third Starcraft 2 game is finished.

That's depressing. I want him on Mute, his second "moon" film.

Wait, Moon and Source Code was the ame dude? What? Like same writer but surely very different director or producer or editor or some shit? I mean I didn't hate source code, it was interesting kinda but Moon basically just drops a heavy steamer on top of source code in comparison.

Are you joking or did you miss the news audio clips that played during his reentry indicating what happens shortly after that occurs? It's hard to give testimony in Seattle when you're dead.

I missed that the first time. When I found out that's what happened I suddenly decided I liked the movie a lot more.

Anybody else have the feeling that is never going to happen? I believe it when I see a full trailer.

It will come out right after the Halo movie, but just before the BioShock movie.

Please get Clint Mansell to be the composer like in Moon. Both Moon and The Fountain had amazing soundtracks.

I really don't want this to be a thing. There are far, far better things this man could be working on.

I agree, but if he can roll this into a film that actually matters, I guess I can live with it.

I want it to be successful. This will give him the money to do whatever the hell he wants after.
