Pokémon X and Y will also see the series embrace simultaneous worldwide launches, after 17 years (17!) of staggered releases. They'll arrive on 3DS in October.
"We brought Pokémon into an entirely new dimension and we're incredibly excited to bring Pokémon X and Pokémon Y to fans," Junichi Masuda, director at developer Game Freak, said in the announcement. "The stunning visuals, a completely redesigned environment, game scenario, music, and communication features will bring smiles to the faces of video game players around the world."
What all these shiny new things are, however, is a mystery for now. Look, a trailer:

This is going to sound insane but I bought the first Pokemon game back in the day (Pokemon Blue on GB) and I remember really liking it (RPG, collecting elements, etc.) but I haven't played any games in the series since then.
The main games in the series (the ones in pairs like this) are they evolutions of the original? Or has the series gone off the rails? I guess I'm asking, knowing I liked the original, if I got the latest DS offering would I still like it?-

I also got Blue back on the GB. I have since then played Silver - which was essentially the same game with additions (day-night cycle, pokemon can hold items i.e. berries that give them health or items that guarantee 1st move or increase xp gains and more.) Also added 150 more pokemon you could still use the original 150 (and visit the same places!)
Last year I got Black - and it somewhat missed it's charm a little (did not recognise the new 150, plus the ~150 from Diamond/Ruby) and there were only a few available from the originals : (. Otherwise it was great - there are now double team battles, rotation battles and more - and it's the same old game with tweaks here and there. Ended up playing over 100 hrs. If you liked the original then you should give it a go
