Kinect Party, the sequel to Double Fine's Kinect toy Happy Action Theater, is coming next week. Best of all, the game will cost you zero dollars and zero cents, so long as you download it before the end of the year. Call it a not-too-subtle sign that Microsoft wants you to play Kinect with the family over the holidays.

Major Nelson didn't mention what the game will cost after the free period is up. But for comparison, Happy Action Theater costs $10.

Kinect Party is a lot like an expansion to Happy Action Theater--so much, in fact, that if you own the original, downloading it will just add the new activities to the playlist. These include building and tearing down castles, trying on costumes, and wub-wubbing with some dubstep.

Dang... Between their KickStarter behind-the-scenes videos, the Amnesia Fortnight stuff, and now this... They're easily my favorite game developer right now. GG TIM

Anytime I have my niece (3 years old) over and I can't take her crazy ass shit anymore I fire up Happy Action Theater and she is entertained for an hour at least.

Wow, nice! I'm happy as a gamer and parent, but I also want DF to make some money on it. Hopefully this will raise the popularity such that 2013 sales are high.

I love that they put footage from the Giant Bomb QuickLook in their trailer.

Wow. I was fully ready to play whatever they were going to charge for this game because Happy Action Theater is the coolest thing my Kinect has done since I bought it. My kids play it literally every weekend (although in our house it's known as "The Lava Game"). I almost want to wait until next year to pay for it to support Double Fine.... but I can't do that. Maybe I'll just buy it again?
