Between the indefinite delay of the open beta of MMORTS End of Nations and reported layoffs at developer Petroglyph, publisher Trion Worlds has taken development of the troubled title in-house to create "a more polished game."

"As End of Nations was reaching the pre-launch phase in its lifecycle, we officially brought the game development in house to Trion Worlds and will complete the development internally," community manager Lance James wrote in the official forums (via PC Gamer). "Our team has been hard at work implementing many changes based on your feedback from the beta events."

James outlined that adjusting the learning curve and changing the game's UI were two of the modifications in the works.

It is entirely possible that the move to internal development was the primary cause of the open beta delay, and not vice-versa. Also, the removal of the title from Petroglyph and the subsequent loss of funds could have been the reason for the reported layoffs. Trion has refused further comment on the issue and Petroglyph has not responded to emails.

At one point I really wanted to play this game because I wanted to play it. Now I want to play this game just to see if it is a train wreck!

Same. I received several emails from them inviting me to play, but never logged in as I never had time (stupid work). I liked Petro and had fun with UaW. I'm wishing I would have found the time.
