Second Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer drops

Rockstar debuted the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5 today.

The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5 was enough to get this hype train a-rolling. Rockstar is releasing a few tidbits and screenshots at a time to tease the game until its spring 2013 release, but today one of the larger pieces of promotion hit with a thud. As promised, the second trailer dropped.

The new trailer focuses on the three lead characters, and adds a bit of insight to each of their personalities -- punctuated by intermittent explosions and car chases. Check it out below.

Action is way over the top but the story stuff seems to be taking itself too seriously again.

Never felt this at all. There's always loads of great humour in the script and even missions. If you want it totally out in crazy land, there's Sain't Row.

The tone shifted dramatically from San Andreas to 4, so much so that the few wacky characters fell flat and did not jive with Niko and his story. Hell, Nikos actions didn't even match up to the story being told. I don't remember any humor really working aside from the radio.

Gay Tony brought some lightness back into the story and missions though. It's obviosly too hard to tell from the 2 second dialogue clips in a trailer like this but Franklin's scenes especially make it seem like there won't be much levity. Then you have the crazy guy and the retired straight man being pulled back into the shit.

Yeah, because giant dildos and orbital drops makes these characters and their stories fun and interesting? What.

I just hope the writing is closer to Ballad of Gay Tony than GTA4 if they aren't going to use the full numbered sequel status to change up the tone and feel again as I had once expected them to do. This looks to be in the same universe, like San Andreas was to GTA3, not something radically different like GTA4 was.

It's amazing that consoles can do that. Hopefully the PC port isn't too far behind, and hopefully it comes with a video editor so that I can make more fun badassery videos.

You could clearly tell which scenes were in-game, and which were pre-rendered cutscenes.

If they release a PC version I imagine gameplay could match the pre-rendered scenes

So now that the new trailer is out, when does the next countdown for multiplayer details begin?

Having three main characters would be a perfect fit for coop, but that would be too good to be true so you know it won't.

        Just a tease for now:

Then of course there’s multiplayer, which has become increasingly prevalent in Rockstar’s games from GTA IV through Red Dead Redemption to Max Payne 3. Will GTA V innovate in the multiplayer space, too? “That's what we're working on, but we're not ready to talk about it just yet,” teases Benzies. “Refining open world multiplayer into something really special has been a huge focus of development and we are very excited to share more information with people soon.”

I still regret the money spent on GTA4, I will pass on this until it's out and it's clear they're didn't make vehicle mechanics realisti-shitty and have a compelling story and no fucking cel phone harassment gameplay.
