XCOM: Enemy Unknown 'Slingshot' DLC announced

Hands up, who wants more XCOM? You do. It's you. All of you. Delightfully, more is coming "soon" in the 'Slingshot' DLC, announced today by publisher 2K. The trio of Council missions will see your squad "meet an enigmatic Triad operative, divert an alien ship's course, and do battle with the aliens in the skies over China." Ooh, exciting!

Hands up, who wants more XCOM: Enemy Unknown? You do. It's you. All of you. Delightfully, more is coming "soon" in the 'Slingshot' DLC, announced today by publisher 2K Games. The new Council missions will see your squad "meet an enigmatic Triad operative, divert an alien ship's course, and do battle with the aliens in the skies over China." Ooh, exciting! You'll get a new squad member with their own voice, more ways to customise your mens, and, you know, all that action going down across the lengthy missions, which include three new maps. 2K hasn't announced a price or confirmed a release date beyond "soon." Also, if you didn't pre-order Enemy Unknown or snap it up at launch, you can buy the Elite Soldier Pack DLC the enthusiastic have enjoyed this past fortnight. For $5 you get loads of armour colours to tinker with, pretty cosmetic armour upgrades, and a chap with the iconic X-COM blonde flattop. A second add-on is due after Slingshot, but that's a mystery for now. The truth is out there.

Nobody was kung fu fighting, because the aliens have zapguns so it'd be daft

I thought they said it was on PC also in the first shipment

It was, but I think that with digital distribution (and if I'm correct, the "normal" edition being digital only on PC in the US), there's no sense of shipment, hence, it's mostly tied to pre-orders on PC.

yeah I'm loving the game and would like some more map variety for random encounters but I don't really feel like spending money for story add ons that don't add any interesting long term mechanics to the rest of my missions.

Well, for once, you can say for sure that they didn't cut it from the main game.

On the other hand, no new equipment, abilities, or aliens? Soooooo, it is just more of the same? Pass.

I'm keen to guess that XCOM will have the same DLC treatment as Civ V did : small DLC adding specialized missions here and there, and sometime, a big DLC adding a whole new dimension. (Terror from the deep, anyone? :D)

I love the game and cool that more content is coming, but I really hate to be that guy and bring up that they should be patching the core game before they should be working on any more DLC.

Normally I don't care as much but there are a crap ton of bugs in this game. Still great but very buggy.

"more ways to customise your mens"...lets see some regional accents, I'm sick of Imamu "Doc" Mensa from Nigeria sounding like a dude bro, and some way to save different squads.
