Monday Night Combat dev goes back to RTS basics with Planetary Annihilation
We get the inside story of Planetary Annihilation from Uber Entertainment's Jon Mavor about what is happening with the game and how he envisions the game to go beyond what Cavedog did almost 15 years ago.
Launch an asteroid into a planet to wipe out your enemy.
Build a base on the moon to take advantage of more resources.
Launch your commander to a nearby moon and begin building a new base.
The Commander is still the key unit. Protect him at all costs.
As of now, the project's Kickstarter is a little more than $100,000 from its goal, with still more than two weeks left to go.

He also explains what the gas giants are/might be meant for (a Shacker was asking about that when they revealed the stretch goals):
On resources:
We are going to keep it simple. It will just be metal and energy. They may be some other types of variants on resources that come into play, but that hasn't been figured out. An example would be how many gigawatts of energy do you have … and I do want to use gigawatts because I think that Back to the Future is cool … but imagine we reach our stretch goal for doing gas giants. In that case, something that makes sense is the idea of a floating gas mine that sucks Helium 3 out of the atmosphere for fusion. Does that mean Helium 3 is a resource that you can use to create more gigawatts or is it not a resource. There's been various things we've been talking about like that where there are different variants on the basic resources. I'm not picturing that you need this much copper or iron – I don't want to complicate the resource system like that. I want everything to pretty much run on metal and energy.

And that's not the only SupCom unit named after someone who now works at Uber Entertainment. Scathis is the internet name of John Comes. http://supcom.wikia.com/wiki/Cybran_Experimental_Mobile_Rapid-Fire_Artillery

Thanks for the great interview. The style and scale that they demonstrate in the trailer just looks perfect. I thought Supreme Commander was too miniature looking, in that you always had to zoom way back and everything looked like ants. But this game uses a lovely cartoon scale and perspective that make the units pop out of the screen. It reminds me of an incredible box of toys :)

I believe it's PA 64 -> Super PA -> Super PA Turbo Edition. PA Alpha is not currently planned. That's all unofficial and is subject to change of course. In somewhat confusing manner you can get access to the alpha and beta of the original Planetary Annihilation if you pledge enough money via Kickstarter or PayPal.
(safety disclaimer: this is all pure sarcasm and should not be taken seriously in any shape, way, or form)

Dude, that's 20 bucks for an amazing game, where most people want to charge you 60 bucks for a shitty game. Uber is actually listening to the fans too. That alone with worth more in my opinion. Plus, it's reasonable for them to ask for more to get more considering game development is not cheap. If this game is as good as I think it will be considering how awesome TA and SupCom/FA were, 20 bucks is a steal. If you can afford to get a decent gaming PC, how can you not afford 40 bucks for a game. Sheesh people are so cheap and entitled.

I really hope they manage to deliver the cartoonish graphics, cool explosion effects, simple and clear buttons with descriptive information and great sound effects.
SC was great but it felt like you were playing with ants, lacked the cool explosion effects and great sounds.
I can't wait for this game, please pledge. -

Long time lurker here.
TA was one of my favourite games, played it for years and I would find it difficult naming a game I enjoyed more.
Thanks to Shacknews for this Article, the second I realised what it was I was off to facebook to let some like-minded friends know.
Pledged, cant wait to play this.
