Whenever a game comes around, eventually players have to make the choice of which platform to buy. Multiplayer modes add another wrinkle, since you'll want to play with your friends. Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is making the decision that much easier by promising cross-platform play.

Beamdog president and project creative director Trent Oster tweeted the news, promising iPad, Android, PC, and Mac players could be a "happy gaming family." This comes among a myriad of other additions the developer has for the game, including a new character, paid DLC, and a higher level cap.

The developer is also hoping that the success of this game might lead to other projects; namely a Planescape revival and Baldur's Gate 3.

This... is excellent news. I cannot wait to role a character in BG again, it's been way too long.

I'm curious if that was a typo or if you actually think it's "role a character!"

Count me in! These AD&D games (Icewind Dale, BG, Planescape, etc) were some of the greatest ever. I miss Black Isle Studios

looking forward to that very much but if the difficulty of the original stays, coop will be a shitty experience for a lot of people. For me a lot of the bigger fights were all about planning and a lot of reloading until a strategy finally worked. Definitely a game you'll want to play with someone you know.

The first time I played was coop and it was one of the greatest gaming experiences I ever had. I agree that you should play with a friend, but I think that way about every game. Forget random matching.

For me, Baldur's Gate was all about the characters, playing co-op kinda screws that up, so I doubt I will be.

      Solo all the way.

I went from Baldur's Gate 1 all the way through BG2:ToB with the same friend. Looking back, his character was (by far) the most memorable even though he was largely anonymous to the storyline. Two people sharing that long ass fucking adventure from level 1 to level *whatever* creates a unique, separate story-arc that's more satisfying than the written one.

All the characters are still there. If I remember correctly, you just have one less spot in your team for them for each coop player. I promise you, it's amazingly fun.
