Here's the first photo of what's likely the new CECH-4000 series of the PlayStation 3, and it appears to be an even smaller than the standard "PS3 Slim."
Here's the first photo of what's likely the new CECH-4000 series of the PlayStation 3. Sony recently filed an updated model of the PS3 with the FCC, and many had postulated that the company was making an even smaller version of its home console.
Photos of a new PS3 model were discovered on the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications. Technoblog discovered evidence that Sony is planning three different SKUs for the revised system: 250GB, 500GB, and 16GB. The last option is especially curious. That model would offer the smallest hard drive in PS3's production history, and if it comes to the US, will likely be a "budget" model. (Could we see a $149 PS3?)
Joystiq points out that the revised system appears to have a sliding panel on top, "perhaps indicating a cheaper top-loading disc drive." While that would be extremely un-sexy, it would harken back to the PSone days.

Yeah my MGS4 PS3 is still rocking to this day. Also still quiet as fuck. Though the 80GB drive is starting to get a bit limiting.

Yes. You can even stick an SSD in the thing but it doesn't speed up loading in the slightest.

tldr: The bottom line is that main advantage of the technology remains the ability to install and load a range of games much more quickly than you can on hard drive, and while real performance gains can be found, it's only on a very limited number of titles.

Might want to buy a replacement optical drive as that seems to be the thing that fails on older PS3s the most often. At least anecdotally based on my friends that still had their BC units.

It would be awesome if they brought back the emotion chip and full backwards compatibility. With all the money they're saving from the cheaper chips, they could do it.

After that you would dump it and go back to your PS2. Compatibility on the PS3 is complete and utter pants. It has not ever worked the way that it should and upscaling always blurs the goddamn game. You are better off with the real thing on a PS2, or just plugging up a decent PC to emulate.

why?? why make it slimmer? HOW ABOUT make it easier to clean the dust out?? accessibility ports to blow the fucker out so I don't have to void my warranty opening it to clean out the number one killer of electronic components AFTER I purchase a security t8 screw driver ONLINE because they are impossible to find in the store. I think I am done with consoles after this generation.
