Sony making new PS3 model
An FCC filing indicates that another PlayStation 3 hardware revision is on the way.
Sony is releasing a fourth version of its PlayStation 3 console. But will it be any slimmer than the currently available Slim model? The most recent revision, CECH-3000, was lighter weight and drew less power--but didn't offer a different chassis. According to the latest FTC documentation, a forthcoming model of the PS3 might offer a new design.
A NeoGAF thread (via CVG) found the FCC filing, noting that it had a new model number of CECH-4000. The internal specs of the system seem unchanged, but users noted the label has changed position which could indicate a new form factor for the system.
Shacknews has contacted Sony regarding the filing, and will update as more information becomes available.

I was, I thought Microsoft and Sony would both release next year. I wonder if the next Xbox releases first again if it'll cut into PS4 sales or if people will feel it's been long enough between the next Xbox launching and the PS4's launch and get both. Anyway if Microsoft release early and sells a lot of consoles it'll force developers to make games that will run on weaker hardware than the PS4 and likely port games from Xbox to PS again, a good business strategy but I want both consoles being closer matchers in terms of power and differentiate on games and experiencers. As for Nintendo I see them releasing another console halfway through the next console cycle. Actually Microsoft need to release within the next 2 years to match Windows 8 and even hope to be the entertainment hub of the sitting room considering Apple and Googles moves into that area aswell.

Nah I doubt it. They were still making PS2 and NES and other console revisions even after their successors had been released. It's even more relevant these days when consoles that are a generation old still sell very well... I'm pretty sure the PS2 sold better than the PS3 for a significant chunk of time before the PS3 took over.

They just seemed a bit dodgy on the 360/PS3 thing. They didn't come out right away and say it was 'current generation'. The game obviously looked better than current gen and that's how they chose to show it. It seems like if they wanted the game to be an 'end of the current generation' kind of game... they should have showed it running on a 360 or PS3. Watching that demo I got a feeling that we kind of saw the tip of the iceberg there, I think there is a lot more to that game than we are seeing and there is technology (not just graphically) which could end up pushing the game beyond what current gen can do. I don't know, it's just a feeling I have... I get the feeling that this game is still a ways off from being released... it will be pushed back and end up a next gen only game...and a big one. The beginning of a whole new Assassin's Creed class of franchises. I could be totally wrong though.

Err no, I don't? I remember "the internet" bitching about too many Xbox revisions at launch with different specs, meaning developers couldn't target a single platform (hard drive, no hard drive) etc...... That I do remember. and oh look the Halo 4 MP information regarding this just this week has gone on to prove what a stupid move it was too.
