A Game of Thrones series has been a hit for HBO and it is trying to capture the enthusiasm for the TV show in the MMO space, announcing a project with Bigpoint entitled Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms. The game, which is being developed by Norwegian studio Artplant, focuses on the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.

The setting for the game will be after the deaths of King Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark:

The Seven Kingdoms were originally independent countries which rose up over thousands of years until the Targaryens ruled over them as one nation of Westeros. The Starks of the north declare war on the south and Baratheon’s two brothers both make claims to the throne. Players are challenged to form alliances through Player vs. Player (PvP), Siege combat and politics to control Westeros.

Bigpoint plans to debut a trailer for the game at the San Diego Comic-Con, which begins July 12.

I'm about 1/4th of the way into a game of thrones and is it me or does he REALLY like to describe valyrian steel?

He really likes describing food, too. And incredibly awkward and downright gross sex scenes.

As best I can tell, despite being rare and expensive and impossible for modern artisans to make....everyone seems to fucking have it.

Hah yes this was my thought too. "OH ITS RARE!", next page another person has a weapon made from it

Nah, it was pretty rare. There was Ice, the heirloom great sword of house Stark. After the death of Ned, Ser Payne or whatever had it for a while before the Lannisters had it melted down and forged into two long swords since they had no valyrian steel weapons These were given to Jaime and Joffrey. Jaime ends up giving his to Brienne.

Then there was Longclaw, which was the heirloom sword of house Mormont, which Jorah passed on to John Snow. Aside from that, there was the dagger used in the assassination attempt on Bran. I think that's about it for Valyrian Steel weapons? Just a few weapons that got around.

Plus each weapon looks different, due to how it was treated/made/some other shit.

Yes, this game will have "Rape" and "Dismember Horribly" buttons. There will also be special emotes where your character will describe the food on the tables for 15 minutes.

I was just thinking, "Man, the games industry needs more MMOs!"

I hope it's subscription-based too, for maximum failure potential.

No one can possibly think this won't fail, including the developers of it. Must be using it as a tax write off.

They need to give up with these MMO's unless they are F2P right out the gates.

Uh, well, in theory an MMO in a setting like this could be sort of cool if handled properly. In reality though the game will be utter garbage.

Good on them on swindling some poor investor out of millions of dollars on what's bound to be a medicre mmo that will not sell and people will have no interest in in a few years. I am surpised the investor didn't see what happened to Capernicus and Elder Scrolls and high tail it out of the meeting, but hey, more power to Bigpoint.

They should have just made a total conversion of Mount and Blade.

To make it like an MMO, perhaps have a persistent world where battles are fought and won for territory. Like Planetside or something.

I'd be all over a professional quality GoT game in the style of M&B like a fat chick on cake.
