Anarchy Reigns coming out in 2013

Platinum Games' Anarchy Reigns has been given a new release window. Instead of July of this year, you can expect it next year.

Platinum Games' Anarchy Reigns was oddly absent from Sega's booth at E3 this year. Odd, considering the game is done. "It is still coming out the first week of July in Japan, but in the west Sega is looking for the best time to put it out," Platinum's Jean Pierre Kellams previously said.

Well, Sega apparently has figured out the "best time" to release the upcoming brawler. Fans can now expect it in Q1 2013--alongside the dozens of other high-profile games slated for that quarter.

"The release of Anarchy Reigns has been re-evaluated. We now expect to launch in Europe and America in Q1 of 2013," Sega's official Twitter states.

The US release of Anarchy Reigns was originally slated for July, the same time as the Japanese release. Given the niche nature of Platinum's games, it would behoove the publisher to consider releasing the game during a period that typically has less competition. Apparently, Sega disagrees.

While fans of Platinum's work will likely be disappointed by this news, they can take comfort in knowing that another Platinum release--Project P-100--will be available by year's end.

this is going to be a mistake. I'll buy it regardless, but putting out such a niche game like this out against competition AND months after the Japanese release is a move that is destined to fail.

It makes even less sense considering that the Japanese version is FULLY LOCALIZED. So Sega doesn't even have that excuse to use for the North American release delay.

I was starting to think that Sega was making some progress for Western releases, and then Sammy beats them senseless in the past fiscal year's numbers, canning projects, and apparently making them too scared to release Anarchy Reigns in July.

At least Platinum's distributing their funding risk by working with Konami on Revengeance, and Nintendo on P100. Unfortunately, though, Bayonetta's IP is owned by Sega, and they apparently don't have enough funding to try for a sequel or a special edition re-release (at least it's on XBox Games on Demand).

Even the US release of the art book, "The Eyes of Bayonetta", published by Udon Entertainment, has been delayed. Amazon had a preorder, but that's been shuffled from June 2012 to January 2013, since there's still no release date.
