Rumor: 'Battlefield Premium' service launching soon
EA is rumored to be launching a Battlefield 3 "Premium" service starting on June 4, just before E3.
EA may be planning to launch a "premium service" for Battlefield 3 as early as June, making good on previous comments that detailed EA's desire to enter the subscription market. Battlefield Premium is said to include exclusive items, and additional personalization options.
Battlefieldo reports that an anonymous source has shared details on "Battlefield Premium." The service is reportedly scheduled to launch June 4, and include a premium knife, black dog tag, soldier camos, weapon camos, extra Assignments, and more.
The rumor also claims that the game will get a fifth expansion pack in March of next year, even after the game's "End Game" content this winter.
The move wouldn't be surprising given EA's eagerness to jump into a subscription service. The purported June date would put it at the start of E3 week, which could give EA an extra talking point for its stage presentation. Shacknews has contacted DICE regarding the rumor, and will update as new information becomes available.

I can only see getting behind this if they do it in a smart way like World of Tanks, where you can completly play and enjoy 100% of the game without getting a premium account, but maybe a premium account just gets you unlocks quicker than without (but still obtainable without it). Maybe also if premium meant free access to DLC or something too, then I can see it being ok.
What you definitely DONT want to do is segment the community and/or make it so that having premium is pretty much a necessity to be competitive since not having it nerfs you too much

I think this will bite them in the end. Didn't they ultimately promise this is something they wouldn't do when they were launching BF3. Lesson learned on my part, probably should have known better to trust what a corporation says anyway. I think its ridiculous to expect them to keep to their word here.
It is already bad enough they said they wouldn't sell map packs but instead they are selling "expansions" and they are selling various other items like dogtags and services to boost your rank.
