Diablo 3 cartoon shows angels vs. demons
With Diablo III actually, genuinely, seriously launching next week, Blizzard has released a six-minute animated trailer showing the angels of the High Heavens throwing down against the demons of the Burning Hells.
With Diablo III actually, genuinely, seriously launching next week, Blizzard has revealed the final piece of its community-unlocked puzzle. Now available for your viewing pleasure is a six-minute animated trailer showing the angels of the High Heavens throwing down against the demons of the Burning Hells.
Unfortunately, as is so often the case, those angels are not quite as pure as they may pretend. Oh no! Could this be the setup for Diablo III, or merely a pretty little cartoon for us to enjoy?
Animation studio Titmouse and director Peter Chung are behind this.
Diablo III launches for PC and Mac on May 15. Tuesday! Oh gosh, it's so close.

Why is every news site referring to this using the word "Cartoon"? It's completely misrepresentative. Here, from wikipedia:
"While "animation" designates any style of illustrated images seen in rapid succession to give the impression of movement, the word "cartoon" is most often used in reference to TV programs and short films for children featuring anthropomorphized animals, superheroes, the adventures of child protagonists and related genres."
It'd be much more accurate to call this an "animated short" - note this is what blizzard calls it on their own site. -

If anything it is entertaining just watching the people post about how Blizzard sucks and it's not fair and setting dangerous precedents. Seriously, over a flag logo and a useless feat? Here's a quote:
"Wow, complete jerk move.
It's something we had no control over and should have no special reward for. Playing the beta was enough reward, and this is simply unfair to everyone who didn't win that particular lottery.
More disturbingly, this sets a precedent for future exclusive in-game rewards that can't be achieved through normal means "just because"
-
-
Well, it is unfair. I was in the closed beta but I hate these kind of exclusive unlocks, especially the ones that are flat out impossible for some people to earn. This is nothing new though, as always it's a calculated PR move weighing the loyalty of the people that get it against the annoyance of the people that don't.
-
-
You know what else is equally "unfair?" The discrimination against future players who won't know about http://reveal.diablo3.com until after May 18th. They won't be able to get those 5 class sigils.
Total, unfair favoritism to people who know about it and have access to the internet right now. It will be flat out impossible to earn them after May 18th. -

Collectors editions have this, too.
If you don't log into WoW on the anniversery day, then you're missing out on another feat of strength + possible pet.
In WoW, there are feats of strength for server firsts (hitting a level, downing a raid boss, etc.). Only one person per server will get those. Achievements that are not possible to get also become Feats of Strength.
Tribes Ascend had some badge for people who hit a certain level by the end of their beta. SWTOR has a title or some shit, and another's coming for people who do certain things on the PTR. I think a lot of MMO's have some way of showing it off, tbh. Didn't SC2 have something as well?
This isn't particularly uncommon, and really isn't a big deal. They're doing something to show off for people who probably provided a bit of data to help fix the game. That's it.

Well, despite my post above, I feel its probably normal to just be irritated by it, regardless of age. What I feel is silly is how big of a deal people are making it out to be.
Would we all rather have free, uninhibited access to the same stuff as everyone else, whether it be from Beta participation, limited marketing promos, or even the CE version, no matter how trivial or cosmetic? Well, yeah, of course! I mean, why not?
Is it worth freaking the fuck out like some people are on the battle.net forums/reddit/whatever? Probably not. =) -
