One highly-regarded Xbox Live Indie title is making the jump to Nintendo platforms. Aban Hawkins and the 1,000 Spikes from Nicalis is heading for both the 3DS eShop and the Wii U. It will sport a (slightly) new title, along with new features and layers of polish.

RevoGamers (via Joystiq) reports that "Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes" will get updated art, graphics and sound, and a 4-player mode to boot. The 3DS version is set for sometime this year, and the Wii U version is aiming to be ready for the system's launch.

If you simply can't wait for a brutally difficult old-school platformer with liberal homages to Indiana Jones, the game is still up on the Xbox Live Indie Games channel for a buck.

I didn't realize XBLIG ever had "hits" that didn't involve either zombies, the word "mine" or the word "craft" in them.

Current Expected / Probable WiiU Online Features:
      - Full blown App store (3rd party support - software allowed for all controllers - no upad requirement)
      - VoIP Via controller
      - User specific accounts (no friend codes)
      - Controller NFC Capability (near-field communication) - used for payment / online services ...etc
      - Internet Browser *that doesn't run out of memory* ;) (video playback on either or both screens)
      - Streaming Media Providers (hulu, netflix, youtube)
      - Content Distribution (possible - depends on region)
      - eShop (New game download/purchase service)
      - Full DLC support (patching, sharing, but will not prohibit item billing)
      - Whole thing called "Nintendo Network" to compete directly with XBL/PSN
      - Ability to download "boxed" games (full digital download + ported gamecube titles)
      - Controller could support Universal-Remote (command your household electronic devices, multimedia)

Extra Bonus: "MySpaceTV" as an integrated social feature. *** salt...

Miyamoto: "Network has to have totally new concept to be different"

Miyamoto: "opportunities to take advantage of online to expand a local, same-room multiplayer experience by connecting that to the internet and making new types of play that way. Also by having the smaller screen, being able to go online and perhaps see what game your friend is playing or see what TV they're watching, I think there's a lot of possibilities for how you could use that."
