Shadowrun Returns hits Kickstarter goal
A new version of Shadowrun obviously resonated with fans, reaching its $400,000 goal in slightly more than 24 hours.
Update: 12:58 p.m. with Mac, Linux funding and new video for more milestones.
We were excited to learn of the upcoming Shadowrun Returns when the Kickstarter page was launched yesterday. Obviously, so were fans of the old pen & paper RPG. The project achieved its $400,000 goal in slightly more than 24 hours. Two backers have already pledged the project's maximum allowable $10,000.
Harebrained Schemes, headed by Shadowrun creator Jordan Weissman and several other FASA veterans, can now get to work on the project while waiting to see how far over the goal it will go with 29 days remaining. Weisman has said that extra funding would allow for a Mac version and more content.
"We're not just focusing on people who've played the tabletop game or have fond memories of the Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo games," the company said on its website. "We want to introduce new players to a dynamic gaming universe with a rich history that's just waiting to be explored. For many of us, gaming is away of escaping the mundane, of using imagination to find adventure, and of exploring the world through an alternative identity."
With the company at more that $445,000, Weisman said the Mac version is a go, with Linux a strong possibility. He also released the video below detailing other possibilities with more funding.
The project has joined the ranks of other Kickstarters promising to "Kick it Forward," a plan by Brian Fargo to contribute 5 percent of the proceeds the completed game receives back to the development community.
