We've hit that curve of the console cycle where developers begin to seriously look ahead to the next generation of PlayBoxes, and Remedy's now getting ready for the coming fun. The creator of Max Payne and Alan Wake is about to start hiring for more an unannounced next-gen game, saying it's "on the very brink of creating the games of the future."

"Remedy Entertainment is looking for world-class talent to work on an unannounced project targeted at future generation consoles," it said in an announcement duplicated on the Alan Wake forums. "More than 20 new positions will become available within the next few months. The first batch of positions will go live as soon as Friday 30th of March."

There's no sniff of what that unannounced project may be, though. Remedy sold Max Payne in 2002 to Take-Two, who has Rockstar Vancouver making Max Payne 3, so it's fair to say that's out of the running. It's fair to say Death Rally's out. Alan Wake's still kicking, with Remedy released downloadable follow-up American Nightmare in February, so the darkness-busting writer could be having another shadowy adventure. Or, you know, it could be something entirely new--Remedy's hardly a sequel factory.

Don't be put off by Remedy not specifically mentioning PC for its new project, mind. Unlike consoles, the PC is always a moving target, and Remedy showed commitment to the platform when it acquired the rights and self-published Alan Wake on PC after original publisher Microsoft killed it. This certainly paid off, as Remedy recouped the port's dev costs after only 48 hours on sale.

As for when the next gen of consoles will arrive, Microsoft and Sony aren't saying. MS insists it's not unveiling a new Xbox at E3, at least. Nintendo has already revealed its Wii U, but it's not bringing a huge advance in processing power, and it's fair to say that's not Remedy's main target.

Should you yourself have the skills to pay the bills, and wouldn't mind moving to Finland, hit up the Remedy jobs section on Friday. Right now, the only open positions are for an Art Director and Tools Lead.
