Street Fighter x Tekken DLC characters to cost $20

Today, Capcom revealed that all twelve addition SFxT characters--Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Elena, Dudley, Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars, and Lei--will be downloadable in a $20 (1600 Microsoft Points) bundle.

Capcom announced that the Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken would feature 12 additional characters not included with the launch version of the game. Eventually, after some pestering, Capcom had to admit that the 12 characters would come to the consoles as DLC.

Today, Capcom revealed that all 12 characters--Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Elena, Dudley, Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars, and Lei--will be downloadable in a $20 (1600 Microsoft Points) bundle. They will be unlockable "soon after the PlayStation Vita version launches later this year."

"I know many were worried past character pricing would push the cost of this update sky high, so I'm happy to say [the DLC] will not break the bank," Capcom said in its announcement.

Given that this content is already on the disc, fans are outraged at Capcom's pricing decision. "Congratulations Capcom, you are officially crooks," one commenter noted. "I can't wait to shell out another third of the total price to get another third of my game! It's great that I have to wait till the end of the year!," another sarcastically added.

In addition to the 12 characters, there will be "Swap Costumes" that allow Street Fighter characters to don Tekken costumes, and vice versa. They will be available for $1 (800 MSP) each, or combined for $26 (2080 MSP).

At the very least, there will be some free content, in the form of nine new gem packs (totaling more than 60 new gems), a replay analyzer, three additional gem loadout slots, and three new color packs. That's... something, right?

Then in 6 months Ultimate SFxT will come out with all the characters, 42 new ones plus 300 new costumes and 1000 new colors for 39.99 right ?

They said they were not going to do it this time around. Then again if it means making a few extra bucks they will probably change their tone.

Not that I believe that Ultimate SFxT will happen, but they also said that the pre-order gems wouldn't be better than the normal ones.... which they clearly are.

They also said that exact same thing about Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, and along came Ultimate.
I know there's a whole debate about on disc DLC, entitlement yadda yadda but 12 locked characters, 12.

That's a little ridiculous, what happened to the days when you unlocked a bunch of characters by simply playing the game?

While the price is similar, I'd rate the content quality of 12 extra characters in a fighter to be far greater than 3 maps in a shooter. When you compare it to other fighters who sold characters at 400 points a pop, 12 for 1600 points seems equitable.

Still, the price is rather steep if buying the bundle is the only option to acquire the characters. This is especially the case since the content is already on disc. Capcom has lost my trust with fighters ever since they would released SUPER versions of their fighters merely months after the release of the original. My biggest beef with this is that this is precisely what the DLC system should be implemented for and Capcom refuses to truly take advantage. I am not spending $60 and then another $20 for a game that is likely to be outdated in less than a year.

"will be downloadable" Nope. They are already on the disc and fully functional. To Capcom, DLC means "Disc-Locked Content."

So the Vita version will end up costing $40 less than those who bought the game at launch + DLC. Makes sense!

I was fooled once with SFIV. I stupidly got fooled again with MVC3. I won't be fooled again by capcom any time soon.
