Diablo 3 launching on May 15
When's Diablo III coming out? May 15. That's when.
Yes, it's great that Blizzard is showing off skills from Diablo III, and postponing PvP to get the action-RPG faster, but when will it actually launch? May 15. That's when Diablo III is coming to PC and Mac. This is happening.
"After many years of hard work by our development team and months of beta testing by hundreds of thousands of dedicated players around the world, we're now in the homestretch," Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime said in the announcement. "We look forward to putting the final polish on Diablo III over the next two months and delivering the ultimate action-RPG experience to gamers worldwide starting on May 15."
May 15 is when it'll be available both digitally via Battle.net and at retail in the United States, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. It'll be available for download in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil on May 15 too but won't hit store shelves in those countries, or in Russia, until June 7.
You can pre-order Diablo III on Battle.net now to pre-load the game in advance, ready to unlock the second it's released.
Blizzard plans to patch PvP in for free some time after launch. The launch on May 15. In exactly two months. Oh, it's finally happening!
The regular edition of Diablo III will run you $59.99, while the shiny Collector's Edition packing an art book, soundtrack CD, documentary DVD, and soulstone USB key containing Diablo II and its expansion will cost $99.99.

Sad, people still give a fuck about this game.
Who cares what Blizzard thinks or feels or develops. There's been like 100000000000000 other titles like Diablo and their last game Starcraft II sucked balls, they laughed at the last 10 years of innovations and Blizzard heads ate it up.
Whatever. Keep paying these guys mortgage's.-

Dungeon Hunter
Nox
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (and sequels)
There's 10.
It may not quite be 100000000000000, but I didn't have to look hard to get this list.
And 6 or 7 of these are as good as D2 (and better than D3).

Not true, it's very frequent that games come out that don't feature cross-platform play.
The example you cite, Civ V, was outsourced to a different company to port. If the main publisher/developer doesn't keep paying to update the game the porting company won't keep up with it.
It is true that the trend has been that if the port is done in-house it tends to be compatible but it's not always a given.
As a different kind of example, Torchlight is on the Mac and even uses Steam Cloud but your PC saves can't be used on the Mac and vice versa because they had to use two different save game file formats for some reason. -

Hey Blizzard. It's not too late to cut a couple more features. The you-must-be-online-to-play-the-single-player-campaign "feature" could disappear and I wouldn't be upset at all. I know you're pushing people on the spend-your-real-money-in-game-so-we-can-get-a-cut feature, but I wouldn't really miss that too much if I wasn't playing with or against (sorry, that feature's already been cut) players.

Anyone legitimately complaining about the Scroll of Companion being removed is instantly put in the "dumbass troll" category.
They weren't actual pets. You'd get a scroll that summoned a small animal who would run around and pick up gold slightly outside of your default pick-up range. The thing would despawn after a few minutes, but you'd probably not notice because ti was so ridiculously minor.

The collector's edition items are on available via the boxed copy. Even if you don't care about the fancy USB stick or Diablo's head, the special dyes and wings make it quite desirable if you like meaningless aesthetic items. If you don't want the CE, then there is no reason. You are able to preload now regardless of which you go for.
