Gotham City Impostors glitch loses stat data
Some Gotham City Impostors players are losing stat data and needing to start from scratch. Monolith is looking into the problem, and says it will issue a fix as soon as possible.
Monolith is requesting help from users to stamp out a tricky bug that's apparently erasing Gotham City Impostors stats. The glitch is most likely to strike when updating from the trial version to the full game, but that's not always the case, so developer has requested information if you've run into the problem.
Monolith's Andy Salisbury addressed the bug and solicited feedback on the Impostors forums (via Joystiq). "We've been hearing some reports that players have had their stats totally reset when playing Gotham City Impostors," he said. "This usually happens when the upgrade from the trial to the full version occurs, but we just want to be sure." He added an apology and says the team is working to fix the bug as soon as possible.
Most of the users seem to experience it when upgrading to the full version, but some of the comments seem to indicate that the bug struck unexpectedly well after the game was purchased.
The game tracks dozens of stats and rewards almost all of them, usually with items like Calling Card unlocks. Losing those prizes, not to mention general experience gained and customized load-outs, is hard enough. But Impostors' partial use of microtransactions adds another wrinkle. Players can purchase an hour of double XP for 50 cents. If you bought that boost and used it before being hit with the glitch, it would amount to wasted money instead of merely wasted time.
Hopefully Monolith was keeping track of player stats so XP and other rewards can be granted once the bug is fixed, but for the time being it seems risky to play until a patch is issued. Shacknews has contacted Warner Bros Interactive regarding the bug, and will update as more information becomes available.
